Whisper, as a brand, has been at the forefront of MH education in the country for close to three decades, impacting the lives of close to 2-3 crore girls till now. But our studies revealed that the issue of a lack of awareness is still rampant in the country to the extent that 1 out of 5 girls drop out of school when their periods start. With a vision of educating 100% of all adolescent girls in the country on Menstrual Hygiene, we came up with their ‘Keep Girls In School’ program - to ensure that no girl drops out of school when she gets her period.
We launched this campaign to create a lasting impact on the lives of the girls of our country, but as soon as the activities kicked off, the pandemic caused the schools to shut down. In the vein of ensuring that the girls’ education does not stop, we took it upon ourselves to make sure that the school come to the girls even if the girls couldn’t go to their schools. Education should not stop.
Out of this vision was born Mobileshaala, a phone-based learning platform wherein girls from classes 6 to 10 can continue their learning on a variety of school subjects and on menstrual hygiene in a language of their choosing for free.
